  • KAR Hi E-Dad and Taz!!! Hey Dad, how was the B2B?... I follow GFT on twitter, it's really looking like no wetsuits this year, water temp is over 80 degrees... I already have 2014 in the back of my mind. Missed the last three years due to a bad cold race week, plantar fasciitis, and just plain lack of motivation. I concentrated on smaller local races this year. I'm entered in the Florida Challenge next March, so I'll hold off on a GFT decision til after then. But I'm really hungry for one last shot at it... Good luck to all GFT participants tomorrow, make it memorable!!! Anyone know if St. Pete Mad Dogs are still there?

  • loteksw Geez, you go away for 6 or 7 yrs and you gotta join all over again. So tell me, how is the GFT doing these days. For the last few yrs I was there they seemed to be getting lower ald lower bugets. Not like the first time I went when It was a big production.

    • KARHey Lotek, yes GFT numbers are down, but I believe that's due to Ironman Florida, and the flood of other M-dot's now available. I'll never understand the fascination with the M-dot logo, but who am I to tell someone how to spend their money. That's a whole 'nother subject. As for me, I'll continue to support the independents, and Sommer Sports, especially for all they have done for the sport...I've just signed up for the Florida Challenge next March. I haven't yet committed to the Great Clermont Tri the following day, so that will have to be a "game day" decision. Really looking forward to returning to Waterfront Park to race, and can't wait to ride Buckhill and Sugarloaf on the same day(sarc). There's still that Coral Springs half marathon the following week, then tri season kicks off for SoFla. Take care everybody, and train hard!

  • KAR Geez, I don't post for 8 months, and neither has anyone else! Well, almost. Welcome sonarman. Let's see...hmm...Navy? ...Hello, TAZ! Now there's a name from the past. I guess everyone is now using the other social media forms, like Facebook and Twitter. I had an Fb account a long time go, after a few weeks about 300 people I never heard of were asking to be my friend. What's up with that? So I deleted the account. But I do follow the twitter feeds from Sommer Sports. That's how I heard about Fred's Assault on Sanity, a Half IM on Sat., followed by an Oly on Sunday. It's set for next March. You can do one or the other, or you can do both. Such a challenge really has me considering it, but it is going to take some real planning. Really giving it some serious thought...Not sure if I'm IM'd out, but maybe taking off a year or two from the GFT was good. I'm not satisfied that I ever gave it a good effort. I always came to the start with a "survival mode" mindset, rather than a "race mode" mindset...A couple more tri's for me, then that's it for this tri season. I'm trying to set up road races for the winter. So far, it's A1A Half Marathon in Feb. The double in Clermont really changes things. For eg.,could I be up for a half marathon in Coral Springs a week later? .. What's everybody else up to?... Black September is coming up real fast for the Great Floridian participants. That's what the Tribe members referred to it as. It's make or break month, no skipping workouts, make every stroke, spin and stride count. This is also where all of your nutrition planning comes together. Before you know it, it will be "taper time", and you'll wonder if you've done enough. So get ready for September.. • SVS It looks like KAR is about the only one posting, so it is time for the rest of you to join the action!! As one of the 'original' TRIBE menbers, I stay in the backgrounds, lurking, observing, offering mundane or obvious suggestions. And over the past 20 years, FRED still offers some of the best events in the country!! The events are just not for you to attend, they are for you to get "INVOLVED" with. Volunteer when you are not participating, and bring your friends along. Don't just sit back, GET VOCAL!! That's what the "TRIBE" is all about. Ask 'Bill the Cat', if you can find him. Or 'HAMMY', 'IRONTOE', or the very obvious "TATOOED BEAUTY". OK, I shook some memories. And at the top of the list will always be "ROCK ON SUZY"!! So start asking/posting/making memories. This will be some of the most fun you will ever have. TAZ

  • KAR Good evening, peeps! Wishing everyone a Happy New Year!..I'm sure most of you are into strength training routines...Today was the first step to another tri season. I got up early, hit the pool for 20 minutes of laps. A couple of hours later, I rode 18.5 windy miles. After the bike ride, I stretched, changed shoes, hydrated and ran 3.5 miles, listening to Dave Matthews. The first steps for another tri season are in the logbook...I hope all of you realize your dreams this year, whether it's a Kona slot, or simply finishing your first tri... See you at the races. G 'bye.

  • KAR This forum is usually slow after race season, looks like everyone has gone into hibernation. Lets see if someone is out there...Hello!!!...I had a visitor from my past pay a visit, and now I can get rid of them. That's right, plantar fasciitis. It came back sometime in mid October, so I had to stop running. I did the half IM on November. Bike went really well, just under 3 hours for 56 miles, considering it was real windy. I taped my foot real good in T2 and shuffled/stumbled/plodded/ and limped a 2:40 half marathon. I was OK with that, considering I hadn't run in a few weeks. Next up, a half marathon in Weston on Dec.9. I've done 'em before on very little training, but that was a carry-over from IM training. But I've never done one being out of shape AND injured.I had no idea of the suffering I was in for...Race morning was normal. Foot taped up rock solid, game plan was to start out slow, relax, go easy, finish, enjoy post race. At 10k, I was just under one hour. Shortly after, that's when everything came unraveled. I felt like I was going in slow motion. Every stride felt like someone was driving a nail into my right heel, and started a limp. At about mile 8, my left knee started hurting, probably from dragging my right leg. I thought about dropping out. I started shuufling, I was being passed alot, and there was nothing I could do about it. At about mile 11, both groin muscles were hurting. I was a train wreck. Just beofre the last turn before the the finish was a small group cheering on everybody. When I got to them, they looked at me in stone silence, mouth open. One of them said "you OK?" I turned the last corner and headed to the finish line, and the last thing I needed was someone taking my picture..I crossed the finish line and kept walking, got to my truck, changed clothes and drove the slow road home. I couldn't wait to get out of there...

    • KARcontinued... I think I finished in about 2:25 or so. I listened to Norah Jones on the way home and did some serious reflecting. I want to make sure there is a silver lining to such a poor performance. I made a few vows, which I won't share here, except one and that is to say that I'll NEVER let myself get to a point so low. What was I thinking?? And just how much counseling do I need?!... I'm going to forget the next couple of races, so the next one will be in Miramar on Jan 19th. Then prep begins for the next tri season. Yahoo!!... Hope everyone is enjoying the Holidays. Happy Hanukkah! Lots of cool tri toys out, hopefully Santa remembers everybody. Have a Safe and Happy New Year.
