Take away my mancard for listening to Barry Manilow? When I'm changing channels on the radio, I'll stop at whatever sounds good, depending on mood. Whether it's Barry Manilow, or Aerosmith, etc. Pre-race I'll listen to Diana Krall-smooth Jazz-to relax the mind. Once out of the truck, the postive self talk and race visualization starts. Now if I we're listening to Menudo or New Kids, you can have my mancard! Run329, thanks for your response. The headphones are just a matter of choice, to each his own. I've been running for nearly 36 years and have never been tempted. I've never been on a treadmill either. Along with the bike trainer, I'd probably go insane, all the pedaling and running and not going anywhere. I read Runners World on twitter, posted last week: good articles on how running does NOT ruin your knees.

    • KARI guess I'll give up on the headphone thing, I guess it's just not for me. I'll just think Pink Floyd and "Run Like Hell"... George Sheehan said that running will eventally make a philosopher out of you. Don't know aout that for me, but running is a good way to clear the head, solve problems and come up with ideas... Running season is over for me, three halfs and a 10k, that's enough. Looking forward to the tri season... I'll give myself a slow start for the first couple of races, then go from there. I bought a full IM training plan about five or six years ago. It puts the long runs on Thursday instead of Sunday. Maybe I'll give that one a go this year. ..What say ya'll?

    • KARE-Dad, great to hear from you. You're wondering if I'm still doing these? Look who's talking??!! Good luck with the B2B, I've read real good reviews on it. I was going to make this my last GFT, but you had to bring up next year. Well, I suppose I can be talked into another GFT. One of these days, I'l have to quit being so silly and start acting my age. What about the Tribe? an it be brought back? Sorry, but I'll have to draw the line at the toe nail painting! It would have been nice to see the Tribe photo in the picture scroller on the home page.

Saturday was 105.5 bike, followed with a five mile run. Sunday was a 16.5 mile run. Whoo-hoo, taper time is here!!

  • KAR If I've counted back correctly, today started the 20 week half IM plan, training toward the June 12th Florida Challenge. And of course, every plan starts with a Monday off day. Still cool enough to be outside training. Trying to mix it in with run training for 13.1 Miami on March 6th. Did six half mary's last year. Only one, maybe two this year. My seven year battle with plantar fasciitis may be over. Strange that no matter what I tried did not work. Started going away on it's own in December. The huge chunk of inflammation that was in front of my heel is nearly gone. Now, to drop 20 lbs... Hope everyones is starting to get back i the groove.

  • KAR Calling all virgins!!! That's right, you've read this correctly. If this is your first atempt at an IM, you're considered a "virgin". Let everyone know it, too. At body marking, you may be asked if this is your first, if so, you may get a "V" marked on your calf. Vets and volunteers notice it, and you're singled out for cheers and encouragement. This is YOUR day, keep your head and stick with YOUR plan. I'll post some last minute tips in a couple of days.
